Sports King Richard III College

King Richard III College is an international school in Mallorca (Majorca) which always strives to be in touch with the demands of the modern world, whilst maintaining contact with its tradition, appreciating that physical activity and education are gaining ever-greater importance in daily life.

This international school in Mallorca (Majorca) is situated very close to the beach of Portals Nous in a privileged position which offers a wide range of possibilities to practise sporting activities in the natural environment of the coast, hills and woodland which influence the content of the Physical Education curriculum.

We as a school are very aware of the need for our students to adopt the habits of a healthy lifestyle and this is reflected in the Physical Education department’s continual promotion of all types of sporting activity to develop and learn the values of competition, healthiness and, above all, safety.

To this wealth and variety of practical physical education we add an intellectual element, in line with the expectations of a prestigious, traditional British School in Mallorca offering an international education in a fully bi-lingual system, starting from Early Years sports education, working through Primary School PE to Key Stage 3 and culminating in the option of PE IGCSE.

In the early stages of Primary School Physical Education we ensure that pupils learn fine motor skills and pay close attention to their proper learning of basic motor skills upon which their future sporting abilities will be built.

The Physical Education of our students continues through Primary School in a bi-lingual manner, incorporating elements of the Spanish curriculum into the required elements of the British curriculum to produce a well-balanced program to meet the needs of our varied students.

Our students’ sporting education culminates in the option of PE IGCSE at Key Stage 4, in which students have the opportunity to specialise some of a wide range of sports, focusing on becoming genuine participants in and promotors of healthy and safe physical activity.

  • Otras actividades deportivas: life saving, elaboración de proyectos deportivos

Some of the sporting activities offering by King Richard III College international school are:

  • Team sports: football, basketball, handball, rounders
  • Individual sports: athletics, tennis, swimming
  • Winter sports: skiing and snowboarding annual trip
  • Other sporting activities: life saving, development of organisational and coaching skills

Our annual whole school Sports Day, the King Richard III Olympics, is a key public demonstration of the importance we place on the achievements of the Physical Education department. In its inaugural year, organised and run by Key Stage 4 Physical Education students, it was a huge success as a celebration of both students and parents participating in sport together.

Monday 3rd October 2011

We began this activity 3 weeks ago, with much anticipation but also doubts about its many mysteries.

First off, sailing, what’s it all about? We all knew what sailing was – something that floats, ‘a boat’, plus a sail and something called wind – but how does it work? Only a few of us had been lucky enough to try it before.

After just a few lessons our comments on sailing have changed to:  “Caza escota” “Viramos”, “Colocate en la proa”, “Arriba con el timon”,  “el timón esta compuesto de: Stick, caña, pala, caja”, “Navegamos de ceñida.”

We’d like to send a big ‘thank you’ to the monitors of “Vela Portals”, especially to Marta, the manager, who so kindly welcomed the school and made possible this adventure!

Here are some of our best moments…
