History at King Richard III College covers all the requirements of the British education system in an international school setting. Courses are established for Key Stages 3, 4 and 5.
History has an essential role in teaching pupils the mistakes of the past and how to avoid them in the future.
At Key Stage 3 pupils in Year 7 learn about medieval history, including the roles of kings and major events like the great plagues. In Year 8 they look at the rise of empires, slavery and the development of industrial societies. In Year 9 leading events of the 20th century are studied including the Dictators of the 1920s and 30s, how the World Wars began, Communism versus Capitalism and Civil Rights movements.
Pupils who select the option of IGCSE History follow course 0470 set by the University of Cambridge International Examinations board. This course is a study of 20th century history from 1918 to 1980. Pupils study Germany 1918 to 1945, the Treaty of Versailles, the League of Nations, the Cold War, events in Eastern Europe 1945 to 1980, Cuban Missile crisis, Vietnam War and the United Nations. They are assessed finally by 3 examination papers:
Paper 1: 3 questions from the list above
Paper 2: a sources question
Paper 3: an in-depth study of Germany.
At Key Stage 5 pupils can select 9697 the University of Cambridge International GCE AS level History. This course begins with the French Revolution, continues with studies of Italian unification, then Bismark´s unification of Germany, the fall of Tsarist Russia and the communist revolution, comparisons of Mussolini, Hitler and Stalin. A 3 hour examination is the final assessment of this course.
For A2, pupils study the Cold War in great detail, the growth of nuclear weapons and the fall of Communism in Eastern Europe. A 3 hour exam assesses them at the end of the course.
As an academic subject, it is very highly rated by universities in their assessment of potential students.

Children born in 2010
We are now accepting applications for children born in 2010 to begin in September, 2012 in our Reception 0 class.
Reception 0 is the first class at our school offering a complete education and a full day from 08:00 until 17:00.
The children are taught by two fully qualified teachers in Spanish and English offering a bi lingual start to their education. Very competitive prices including lunch.
