Geography at King Richard III college enables pupils to understand their world. It also provides them with an excellent subject to support their application for top universities around the world. It is of value in both sciences and arts courses at higher education level.

Pupils at this international school in Mallorca follow the Oxford course for Key Stage 3 and the University of Cambridge International courses to IGCSE and A/AS Levels.

At Key Stage 3 they follow a 3 year course including topics on mapwork, settlements, rivers, weather, coasts, energy, ecosystems, economic development, tectonic activity and the study of a European country. Regular tests and assessment procedures are built into this course.

At Geography IGCSE level, pupils follow course 0460 of the Cambridge examinations board. This consists of 3 examination papers. Topics covered include population, settlements, plate tectonics, weather and climate, primary, secondary tertiary and quaternary industries. There are questions on O.S. map skills and fieldwork. Normally pupils complete a day of urban fieldwork in Alcudia town and a coastal study at the nature reserve at Playa Mondrago.

The Key Stage 5 course provides an excellent preparation for the Cambridge AS/A2 level  examinations. The AS examinations are held in May each year and for Geography, there is a 3 hour exam. Pupils answer 5 short questions from population, migration, rocks and weathering, weather and climate, settlement and fluvial studies. They then select 2 more detailed studies from the same list.
The A2 course is examined in two 90 minute papers. Students study 2 human geography modules such Environmental Management and Tourism, plus 2 physical geography modules such as Coastal Landforms and Hazards.
