Welcome to Year Two, a primary class in King Richard III College, an International School in Spain, which is one of the British schools in Mallorca.
Year Two is a special year in the Primary School, where students start learning to become more independent and mature, working on their own and with guidance. It is also a fun year to teach because at this age the students are always keen and full of enthusiam, as they themselves become more aware of their abilities and skills.
In Year Two the subjects included in the school curriculum throughout the year are:
These activities allows them to speak audibly and clearly, gaining confidence in oral activities, daily reading and spellings(phonics and blends). Handwriting skills focus on correct letter joins before progressing on to joined handwriting with correct use of punctuation and grammar in sentences and creative writing. They enjoy participating in a school assembly, as well as reciting class poems.
students learn to count up to 100 forwards and backwards from a given number. They have fun solving problems and participating in practical group work using their acquired knowledge of adding, subtracting, multiplication facts, measuring and mental calculations.
Students are provided with a rich and stimulating scientific experience which will foster interest and enthusiasm, as well as a better understanding of the topics covered throughout the three school terms. School trips are planned to enforce these experiences and encourage their own ideas and discoveries.
Mother Nature theme: an awareness of colour, shape, paterrns in their lives, starting with Autumn. Art activities are also closely linked to other subjects and popular dates in the school calendar.
Children learn about the importance of keeping fit /healthy, body awareness and space, listening and following directions, so as to be a better team member. The annual School Sports Day (KR3 Olympics) is a popular date on our calendar, well supported by both parents and students.
The chidren in Year Two take pride in their work, and are encouraged to help to reinforce the message and purpose of the lessons or topics at the time, through classroom displays. The banners and hanging displays are created by them and give them a sense of belonging to the class group, and they take pride asking family members to come and have a peep.
